Today the USGBC announced that our WATER+LIFE Museums, completed by Lehrer Gangi Design Build, have obtained a LEED Platinum rating making it the first museum to achieve this level of certification. Lehrer Architects would like to thank all of our fellow team members and consultants who worked tirelessly over the past year preparing our submittal. It really was a team effort!

Lehrer Architects LA has been selected as a finalist for the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Award. There were over 300 projects, of various types, considered for the award. The winner will be announced this June at NeoCon in Chicago.

The Sustainable Buildings Industry Council announced today that Lehrer Architects has won their Beyond Green™ 2007 High Performance Buildings award for the WATER+LIFE Museums. All applicants were challenged to demonstrate the successful application of the whole building approach and show how they maintained the proper balance of eight design objectives (accessible, aesthetic, cost effective, functional, historic, productive, safe/secure and sustainable) that make up a high performance building. As part of this world-wide event, we designed an installation to visualize the carbon footprint of our city’s primary mode of transportation. Each mile a SUV emits 1.57 pounds of CO2 into the Los Angeles air. Converted to volume, it fills 99 balloons

AIA LA presented Lehrer Architects with a Design Award for our Silverlake office on June 21st at the Beverly Hilton. Award submissions will be on display at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Center on UCLA’s campus through July 16th. This is the fifth design award we received for the LA Office.

“In just a few moves, the architect has created a lovely space to work, where the interior corresponds to the building and the furniture is sculpting the space. I would really like to work there.” An AIA LA Design Award Juror

Lehrer Architects received two Gold Nugget Grand Awards at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference. One was for the LA Office, in the category of Best Rehab Commercial/Industrial Project. LA also received a Grand Award, with Gangi Development, for the WATER + LIFE Museums at Diamond Valley Lake in the category of Best Sustainable Commercial Project. The team also received the Award of Merit for Best Public/Private Use Facility for the Museums.

Established in 2000 to recognize the best examples of housing design, the program emphasizes the importance of good housing as a necessity of life, a sanctuary for the human spirit, and a valuable national resource. The recipients of the 2004 Housing Awards will be formally recognized by the Housing PIA Committee PIA at the 2004 AIA National Convention and Expo in Chicago, June 10–12.
