Starter Home

This new affordable starter home prototype—delivered for under $200,000 in total design and construction costs—was built on four sites in South LA in collaboration with nonprofit developer Restore Neighborhoods Los Angeles and community development financial partner Genesis LA. This prototype elevates the house typology by creating spatial richness, a sense of luxury, and energy independence. At a modest 1,000 SF, this home honors the rudiments of good living: generous natural light, gracious procession from public to private spaces and easy indoor/outdoor living.

"Lehrer Architects sets a new standard for approachable starter homes in one of the country’s most expensive markets."
