Westside Jewish Community Center

Lehrer Architects renovated the historic structures of the Los Angeles Westside Jewish Community Center, the longstanding home of its aquatic facility for almost fifty years. Having outgrown the original building, the project entailed a comprehensive modernization of the existing program, including a pool retrofit. The design approach preserved the essence of the original Modernist structure. Opening the pool hall to the outdoors with expansive window walls created a blend of indoor and outdoor spaces. By respecting the architectural legacy, Lehrer Architects successfully transformed the facility into a captivating new space, harnessing natural light and ventilation to craft a distinctive and memorable experience for swimmers of all ages.

"It's never been a pool just for the Jewish community, it's always been a resource for the entire community."
- Lenny Krayzelburg, Olympic medalist and donor
