7th Avenue Village
One of the first motels acquired by Los Angeles County through Project Homekey, a former freeway-side Motel 6, is being reimagined as 7th Avenue Village in Hacienda Heights—a long-term supportive housing community for formerly unhoused individuals. The 2.5-acre site is now a 144-unit campus, transforming an asphalt lot into a livable neighborhood. Compact residences (200–475 SF) are purposefully designed with full kitchens, renovated bathrooms, and built-in desks to support daily life. The grounds replace paving with green courtyards, shaded parking, and shared amenities—including gardens, outdoor fitness, a dog run, and a community room. Striking colors, layered landscapes, and intentional placemaking create clarity, energy, and a strong sense of arrival. Operated by WORKS, the project exemplifies how design and dignity can redefine housing, integrating sustainability and joy into a model for community resilience.
